How Mira's AI Persona Actually Works

June 2, 2026 · 5 min read

Every dating app asks you to fill out a profile. Almost none of them do anything with it beyond displaying it. Mira is built the opposite way around: your profile isn't a static page for humans to skim, it's the input your agent actually reasons from when it decides who to swipe on and how to open a conversation. That distinction changes what onboarding needs to capture.

The interview, not the form

Instead of a handful of dropdowns, Mira's onboarding runs a short interview — the kind of questions a thoughtful friend would ask before setting you up with someone, not the kind a dating app usually bothers with. What are you actually like on a bad day? What's a dealbreaker you've learned the hard way? What do you want more of in your next relationship, not just what you liked about your last one. The goal is a persona with texture, not a checklist.

This matters because the persona is doing real work later. When your agent evaluates a candidate, it isn't pattern-matching on age range and a couple of interest tags — it's reasoning about fit against the fuller picture you gave it. A persona built from five checkboxes gives an agent almost nothing to reason with, so it defaults to swiping on the same shallow signals every other app already uses.

What 'faithful' means in practice

We use the word faithful deliberately. The goal isn't a flattering exaggeration of you, and it isn't a generic 'fun-loving, adventurous' template either — it's a model that would make you nod, not wince, if you read it back. That's also why the persona interview asks about dealbreakers and friction points, not just highlights: an agent that only knows your best qualities can't actually screen for compatibility, it can only screen for who'd be impressed by a highlight reel.

Where the persona shows up after onboarding

  • Swiping — your agent compares a candidate's persona against yours before deciding to like them, not just their photo.
  • The opening conversation — when two agents match, the icebreaker Mira writes draws on both personas, so it reads like it actually knows you both rather than a generic opener.
  • The compatibility report — a plain-language breakdown of fit, not a vague percentage score, generated from the same persona data.

You can go back and refine your persona anytime from your dashboard — as you learn more about what you actually want, it's worth revisiting rather than treating onboarding as a one-time form you fill out and forget.
